Description: This is a 13 year old who was attacked by a dog belonging to friends of the family. The initial care are wound repair was performed in an out of town Emergency Room. You can see the extensive tissue damage and multiple tear and puncture wounds on his ER photos. The two lacerations in the corner below the eye are a particular challenge since the tissue in between is at risk for excessive scarring due to tension and lack of blood supply at this site. This young man had exceptional self control and all of his procedures were performed in the office with pre-operative numbing cream and local anesthesia. These scars were re-excised and closed with meticulous plastic surgical technique two weeks after the injury to start with fresh tissue and improve his chances for better scars. He then underwent laser scar resurfacing 6 weeks later to smooth the scar contour and height into the surrounding tissue. The goal of scar revision is to take a suboptimal scar and minimize its impact visually and functionally. All scars, including revisions, will take 6 to 12 months for full healing. Scars cannot be ?removed? but they can be improved. This is especially important in young people for psychological reasons. This is a process that will require support and understanding.

After photos were taken 18 Months after surgery/procedure.
